Having successfully led the armies of France against King John, Lewis is approached by his old mentor, Cardinal Pandulph. The cardinal then proceeds to request Lewis to end the war, and return to France, as the Church has decided that King John is no longer excommunicated. Lewis has to make the decision of whether to give in to the Cardinal, or continue the war without the Church's backing.
